Ofte: betaal iemand om trouw te zijn in jouw plaats.
Een vernuftig idee waarmee koppels die elkaar trouw zijn wat geld kunnen bijverdienen terwijl iemand die ontrouw is zijn geweten kan sussen door de aangerichte schade te laten 'neutraliseren'.
Schitterend idee! Iedereen tevreden toch?
Of nie? Haalt uiteindelijk niks uit, want de schade is toch al gebeurd...
of erger nog het bevordert het juist... is het gewoon nie beter om trouw te zijn dan?
Het idee klinkt gewoon belachelijk... zeker een stomme grap bedacht ergens op café?
Ja en Neen: want met een kleine aanpassing is dat nu juist het idee van 'Carbon Offsetting'
waarbij uitstootrechten verhandeld worden tussen verschillende landen, of ook jij en ik onze vliegreizen kunnen 'neutraliseren' om zo ons geweten te sussen, en te kunnen blijven doen wat we al altijd deden: vervuilen.
Alleen hoe krijgt ge de absurditeit daarvan uitgelegd zonder al na vijf seconden iemand te vervelen? Wel zo dus:

President van Ecuador toont ware gelaat
Rafael Correa, voor lange tijd aanzien als één van de nieuwe progresieve, linkse krachten in Latijns Amerika, heeft deze week zijn roodkleurig masker laten vallen.
In een ministerieel besluit besliste zijn regering om de rechtspersoon van één van de voornaamste ecologische organisaties van het land, Acción Ecológica, zonder voorafgaande waarschuwing of weerwoord af te nemen.
De organisatie werkt al 20 jaar lang met het oog op een gezonder leefmilieu en kwam onlangs regelrecht in aanvaring met de President over de nieuwe mijnbouw wetgeving die de weg moet vrijmaken voor grootschalige mijnbouwprojecten in het land.
Blijkbaar stuitte het hevig protest vanuit milieu- en inheemse groeperingen de President danig tegen de borst want in een interview na de feiten wist hij te vertellen dat "er vele van dergelijke NGOs zijn die maar doen waar ze zin in hebben, zich mengen in politiek... het is een chaos waar we stilaan orde in aan het brengen zijn.'
Als reactie op de ontbinding kwam er een stormvloed van steunbetuigingen en verontwaardigde reacties los bij verschillende nationale en internationale organisaties. Een briefschrijfactie die rechtstreeks gericht is aan President Correa moet hem ervan overtuigen om op zijn stappen terug te keren en doen inzien dat de tijden waarin dictators in latijns amerika 'zomaar hun zin deden' voorgoed voorbij zijn.

Dear President Correa,
I would like to express you my dismay about the decision taken by your administration to close down Acción Ecológica by withdrawing its legal capacity (personería juridica). Such a decision could have been expected from the previous anti-people and anti-nature governments, but not from yours. I have been among the many people that applauded the recognition of the rights of nature and the right to “well-being” (buen vivir) in the new Ecuadorian Constitution promoted and approved during your mandate as President.
Within Ecuador, there is no doubt that one of the few organizations that has for years been defending nature and local peoples’ well-being is Acción Ecológica. Everyone around the world knows its dedication to defending the Amazon and its peoples from oil companies such as Texaco. Everyone that has been in contact with them knows about their courage, intelligence and commitment to protecting the country’s social and ecological wealth against the economic interests of national and transnational corporations eager to exploit them in a socially unjust and environmentally unsustainable manner. Everyone who has had the privilege of working with them can only express admiration.
Protecting the country’s natural resources and peoples against industrial logging, commercial shrimp farming, oil exploration and extraction, monoculture tree plantations, biopiracy, water privatization and so on –as Acción Ecológica has been doing over many years- is clearly in line with the new Ecuadorian Constitution. Even more so: it is an obligation for any person, organization and institution in Ecuador.
I therefore find that this decision taken by your administration is in total contradiction with the aims stated in the new Constitution and can only think that it is a mistake made by some ill-informed person within your administration.
Your government is seen by many as one of the most progressive within the region and as an example to many other governments that do not respect nature or people’s well-being. Your government is also a sign of hope for those of us who are fighting for a socially just and environmentally sustainable world.
However, the credibility of your government is now at stake as a result of this attack against one of the most respected civil society organizations of your country: Acción Ecológica.
I therefore trust that you will intervene on this issue and ensure that Acción Ecológica’s legal capacity is restored immediately so that they can continue doing what they do best: protecting people’s and nature’s rights.
